At the 6th World Congress of the World Institute of Pain in Miami Beach this month, Dr. Kenneth Candido presented a poster on the success of implanting a permanent device that delivers constant spinal cord stimulation to offer pain relief to patients with HIV-related polyneuropathy. Dr. Candido is chair and professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago. Using a technique previously used for management of pain from failed back surgery, complex regional pain syndrome and others, Dr. Candido and his colleagues applied the same technique to patients with HIV-related polyneuropathy.
